Obituary of Gary Edward Cochran
Gary E. Cochran (72) resident of St. Maries, died March 6, 2016 at Benewah Comm. Hospital. He was born July 17, 1943 to Glen and Opal (Herren) Cochran at Vandalia, MO.
Gary spent his early years in Missouri. When he was 15 years old he moved with his family to California. He graduated from Fresno High School with the class of 1961. Following his high school graduation, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for 9 years before an accident forced him into retirement. When he got out of the Navy, he enrolled in college at Napa, CA. He then transferred to Monterey Peninsula College pursuing a degree in drafting. While in school, he met Barbara Prall and they were married on Sept. 12, 1970 in Crescent City, CA. Following his schooling, Gary went to work for an architect in Monterey, CA. and drew himself out of job. Gary then went to work drawing maps for a title company, where he worked his way up to head Title Officer in Fresno County, CA.
Gary enjoyed working as a roofer, he also enjoyed woodworking, drawing, and being a gunsmith. Gary was a “Jack of all trades” who loved U.S. History. Gary loved North Idaho, so he and Barbara moved to St. Maries in 2004 to be closer to his family.
Gary is survived by his wife Barbara at the family home. Son Glen (Heather) Cochran of St. Maries and daughter Mollie Cochran (Rayford Trahan) of Egan, LA. Gary is also survived by brother Stirley (Pat) Cochran of St .Maries, Sister Glenda Cochran of Oregon, sister-in-law Lynn Cochran of St. Maries, and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bobby Cochran.
