Obituary of Joyce Elaine Sterkel

Joyce E. Sterkel (85) a Fernwood, ID resident, died April 7, 2016 at her home in Fernwood while under Hospice Care. She was born February 8, 1931 to William and Garnet (Culver) Woodward at Yankton, SD. Joyce grew up in Yankton S.D. until she was 15 years old and moved with her family to Klamath Falls, OR. Joyce married Neal Brusseau in 1947 in Reno, NV. They made their home in Springfield, OR were she was active in raising her family. They were divorced in 1965. Joyce then married “Tucky” Demerritt in 1966 and made their home in St. Joe City. Their marriage ended in 1971. Joyce then married Donald Sterkel on March 23, 1974 at Kennewick, WA. They lived in Kennewick until 1980 when they moved to Fernwood, ID. Her husband died in 2005. Joyce enjoyed quilting, sewing, doing handicrafts and wood working. Joyce also enjoyed canning, fishing and growing flowers in her garden. Joyce is survived by son and daughter-in-law Steve and Sydney Brusseau of Santa, ID, her Step-son’s Larry and Todd Sterkel both living in Washington State and step-daughters Cathy Huggins of Texas and Cheri Holbrook of Washington State. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren and numerus nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
