Obituary of Harold E. Cook

Harold E. Cook (84) resident of Fernwood, ID passed away July 27, 2012 at his home. While our hearts are aching from his passing, we are so happy that he can be re-united in heaven with the love of his life Dora Lea, his wife of 59 years. Harold was born July 31, 1927 in Latah, WA to Paul and Margaret Cook. As a young boy, he delivered papers on the South Hill in Spokane. At the age of 13, he started driving truck for his dad , delivering seed to local farmers. He attended grade school and high school in Spokane. When he was 17, and with his parents consent, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in some fierce battles in the Pacific. He was very proud to be a Marine. After the war ended, he came to Prineville, Or and worked driving lumber and logging trucks in the area. In 1948, he met Dora Lea Yost , fell in love and married her. They lived in Ochoco Logging Camp. In 1950, shortly after the birth of their 1st son Ron, they moved to Prineville. In 1955, they had another son Bob. In 1959, Harold's logging job took the family to the Santa/Fernwood Id where they spent Summers in the logging camps. When school started, they would move to town. Harold would continue to work until winter when snow got to deep and the mills would shut down. He would then take his family back to Prineville where he could log year round. He did this until 1964 when he decied to stay in Prineville and operate his own logging company. In 1984, Harold sold his business because of health reasons and retired. He and his wife then traveled for a few years until a good friend Les Schwab talked him into working for him in security. He worked for Les Schwab until Dora Lea passed away in 2007. He then moved to Fernwood with his son Ron and Daughter-in-law Susie and became part of their family. One of the speciall people that Harold was very close to was his caregiver and best friend Susie who made his last years confortable with her loving and compassionate care. He thanked her many times, every day. It's not often we meet people who have a gentle kindness and loving heart as big as Harolds. He touched the lives of all he met. Dad was a true old fashion gentleman who will be missed and deeply loved by all his family. Harold is survived by his son's and daughters-in-law Ron and Susie in Fernwood and Bob and Cheri of Powell Butte, OR, Brother Doug Cook of Fernwood, Sister Helen Pearce of Spokane, Brothers-in-law Dick and Bill Yost, Seven grandchldren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
