Obituary of Reldon D. Schlappy
Reldon Dale Schlappy, 83, died peacefully Monday, July 4, 2016 at his home in American Fork surrounded by his family. He was born February 19, 1933 in Lehi, Utah, the son of Henry Arnold and Dula La Ree Anderson Schlappy. In 1936 his family moved to Missoula, Montana where he grew up. He loved fishing, hunting, woodcutting, anything to do with trains, and family vacations.
He met Joan Haller in Washington, D.C. while he was in the service. They were married October 19, 1955 in the St. George LDS Temple and made their home in Missoula. Reldon attended the University of Montana, graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad as Superintendent, moving to different states as his career progressed. He retired in St. Maries, Idaho as General Manager of the St. Maries River Railroad.
Reldon and Joan served as Temple workers in the Seattle LDS Temple and in Spokane, Washington as Welfare Service and Family History Missionaries. He was also a Bishop and served as a High Counselor. Joan died in February 2003 and Reldon moved to American Fork. There he met Sherrie Ferguson through a mutual friend. They were married August 14, 2009 in American Fork and have had many happy years together.
He is survived by his wife, Sherrie, and children: Karen Moore, Post Falls, Idaho; Wayne Schlappy, Couer d’ Alene, Idaho; Linda Schlappy, Salt Lake City, Utah; Diane Caldwell, Hayden, Idaho; Debbie Orme, American Fork, Utah; David Schlappy of Lititz, Pennsylvania; Susan Morgan of Vineyard, Utah; Scott Ferguson, Cedar Hills, Utah; Debbie Ferguson Hawks, American Fork and Jim Ferguson of Hauser, Idaho and their spouses. He is also survived by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren and a brother, Keith Schlappy of Missoula, Montana. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; son, Larry Schlappy; grandson, Jason Moore; a son-in-law, Scott Moore and a sister Lela Beagley.
Services will be Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hillcrest LDS Stake Center, 165 North 350 West, American Fork with a viewing from 6-8 p.m. on July 8th at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork. There will also be services in St. Maries, Idaho at the LDS Chapel, Tuesday, July 12th at 11 a.m. with a viewing at 10 a.m., under the direction of Hodge Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries, Idaho.
