Obituary of Lee Allen Swofford
Lee Allen Swofford (68) resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at North Idaho Hospice House on September 8, 2016 in Coeur d’ Alene, ID. He was born to Donald and Audra Swofford in St. Maries, ID on July 5, 1948. Lee attended St. Maries High School and worked at the Bungalow Theatre.
Following high school, Lee worked at a sawmill in Santa, ID; however he was injured when he cut his hand off. Doctors were able to reattach his hand, and once he healed he went to work as a logger with his dad. He later moved to Wyoming and went to work in the oil fields in Colorado. Lee returned to St. Maries where he drove logging truck. Lee began scrapping metal and lived up to the motto “Another man’s junk is another man’s treasure”. Work brought Lee back to the oil fields in Colorado and he drove truck before a diagnoses of Alzheimer’s forced him into retirement. Lee returned to live in St. Maries, ID with his sister Debi Michael. He enjoyed playing guitar, gardening, hiking in the woods, and loved being around people.
Lee is survived by his daughter Chrissy Swofford and sons Joe Swofford and Nick “Jake” Swofford all of Fruita, CO; sisters Debi (Doug) Michael and Linda Priester of St. Maries; 3 grandchildren1 niece, 2 nephews, 2 great nieces, and 2 great nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kim Swofford, Son Garrett Swofford, and adopted sister Juanita Lundt.
A memorial service is planned for October 8, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Eagles Lodge in St. Maries, ID. A gathering of family and friends to share a meal will follow. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Hospice of North Idaho 9493 N Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835 or Alzheimer’s Association 1403 S Grand Blvd #202, Spokane, WA 99203.
