Obituary of Jacqulynn Lee Slater
Jacqulynn Lee Slater (77) resident of St. Maries passed away at her home on October 21, 2016. She was born to Orville and Dolly Shiew on April 29, 1939 in Palisade, CO. Her family relocated to Las Vegas, NV where she attended N. Las Vegas High School.
Following high school Jackie married and had 2 children. The marriage ended in divorce, and she waitressed to support her family. In 1964 she met Don Slater in Cambria, CA at a rodeo. The couple married on October 8, 1966 in Las Vegas, NV. The family moved around wherever work brought Don including the state of California, Colorado, and Alaska. Jackie attended nursing school through a program at Los Altos Hospital. She obtained her LPN and worked as a nurse for a few years. Jackie eventually ended up working in law enforcement as a dispatcher and deputy, which is something she really enjoyed. Health issues forced Jackie into retirement, and family brought the couple to North Idaho. Jackie was very talented and enjoyed painting. She also enjoyed collecting china, glassware, elephants, and she was an avid reader. Jackie was very family oriented and loved her family very much.
Jackie is survived by her husband Don Slater at the family home; daughter Kimberly Koenig of St. Maries, ID; son Randy (Tammy) Slater of Kamiah, ID; brother Steven Pettis of Colorado Springs, CO; 5 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Alvy Pettis, Jessie Pettis, and Virgil Pettis.
