Obituary of Betty J. Hammons
Betty J. Hammons (80) longtime Fernwood, ID resident, died August 18, 2012 at Hospice House in Hayden, ID following an 11 year battle with cancer. She was born January 7, 1932 to Floyd and Mary (Torpey) Faughn at Elgin, OR. She moved with her family to Farmington, WA when she was 5 years old. She lived in Illinois until she was 15 years old. She moved to Fernwood, ID in 1947 and graduated from St. Maries High School with the class of 1949. December 31, 1949, she married Bob Hammons at the "Hitching Post" in Coeur d' Alene. They made their home in Fernwood, where she was a homemaker and raised her family. In 1967, Betty went to work for her husbands logging business. She worked as a secretary, book keeper and parts runner. She retired in 1993. Betty enjoyed traveling, her favorite destination was Hawaii. She enjoyed collecting antiques and going to yard sales. She especially was fond of cooking holiday dinners and being with her family and friends. Betty was a member of their Fernwood Community Church and the Fernwood Ladies Aid Society. She also was a volunteer for the Well Child Clinic at Fernwood. Betty is survived by her husband Bob at the family home. Son's and daughters-in-law Bob and Karen Hammons, Wayne and Shelly Hammons and daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Doug Barden all of Fernwood, ID. Also surviving are brother Bill Faughn of Omaha, NB and brother John Faughn and wife Linda of Virginia. Betty is also survived by 13 grand children and 24 great grand children. She was preceded in death by grandson C.J. Hammons and great grandchildren Colton Barden and Katherine Hammons. A celebration of her life will be Friday August 24th 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodge Funeral Home, St. Maries, ID with Pastor Brian Primer officiating.
