Obituary of Gary Cline Moss
Gary Cline Moss (72) resident of St. Maries, ID passed away on November 6, 2016 at his home. He was born to Cline and Doris Perkins Alters in Beardstown, IL on July 1, 1944. After divorce, Doris married James Emerson Moss who adopted Gary at age 6. Gary grew up in Beardstown and graduated from high school with the class of 1963.
Following high school Gary attended Illinois State University in Normal, IL. He graduated in 1967 with a BS degree in Business. Gary enlisted in the US Army in 1969 and became commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in 1970. He served in Germany and Thailand with US Army Special Forces and was discharged in 1973. Gary moved to Moscow, ID to attend the University of Idaho where he studied Forestry. He met Nancy Ostroot and they married on September 25, 1976 in Moscow.
The couple made their home in Moscow for 1 year. Gary was hired by Potlatch Corp and worked out of Headquarters, ID. He and Nancy then moved to Orofino in 1978. Gary began working as Human Resource Manager at the Potlatch Twin Feathers mill in Kamiah. Following his time at the Kamiah mill, Gary took over the HR function at Jaype Plywood in Pierce, ID. In 1985 Gary transferred to the St. Maries Complex and worked as the Human Resource Manager. During this time he served 10 years on the Benewah Community Hospital Governing Board. In 2006 Gary retired.
Gary enjoyed cycling. He trained to ride the STP Cycling Event between Seattle and Portland. He rode the 200-mile one-day trip for the first time was when he turned 50 years old. He made the trip 5 times. In 2006 Gary stopped cycling and purchased a Honda 1300 VTX Motorcycle. He enjoyed riding it and in 2007 traveled to Sturgis, SD with Jim Shubert. Gary also enjoyed wood working, and built his deck and some decorative structures for his gardens. He recently took up gunsmithing and reloading and took classes to learn firearm self-defense. Gary enjoyed making rock gardens and was very proud of his landscaping as it was the perfect place to feed the visiting quail. The biggest joy of his life were his dogs and he loved them very much.
Gary is survived by his wife Nancy at the family home and his son and daughter in-law Justin Moss and Vanessa Steinroetter from Topeka, KS.
A memorial service is planned November 10, 2016 at 11:00am at Hodge Funeral Home.
