Obituary of George "Corkey" M. Dawson
George M. “Corkey” Dawson (79) resident of St. Maries, ID passed peacefully at home after living a very eventful life. He was born to Horace and Jackie Dawson in Clayton, OK on January 24, 1937. Married 60 years to his wife Marcy, the couple shared many adventures together. Corkey was a Foreman of the Hamboldt County road department in Eureka, CA, and also served as a Special Deputy. He hauled chips and logs up in Alaska, and long hauled over the highways. The couple settled in St. Maries, ID in 1969 where Corkey worked for several employers driving truck.
Corkey loved music and he enjoyed playing guitar. He also enjoyed woodworking, his friends, the Seattle Seahawks, and living life to the fullest. Corkey is survived by his wife Marcy at the family home, sons Ronald (Darla) Dawson of Wasilla, AK and Gary (Julie) Dawson of Seattle, WA; brother Jerry Dawson of Phoenix, AZ; sisters Sue (Melvin) Johnson of San Antonio, TX and Phyllis (Mike) Brayden of Elko, NV; one grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Jim Dawson, and sisters Irene Dawson and Hilda Ricketts. A celebration of life will be held in the spring. The family suggests memorials be sent to Hospice of North Idaho.
