Obituary of Doyle Henry Gibson
Doyle Henry Gibson (86) long time resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at Valley Vista Care Center on December 18, 2016. He was born on July 2, 1930 to Floyd and Willie Gibson in Silva, NC. Doyle attended school in North Carolina and at the age of 16 he moved to St. Maries, ID to be with his dad.
Doyle worked for his dad’s logging company until he enlisted in the United States Air Force in Spokane in 1950. While in the military he received his GED. He also served oversees in Greenland. Doyle was honorably discharged in 1954 while stationed at Eglin Air Force base in Florida.
Returning to St. Maries, Doyle went to work in the woods. He met and married Pat Torchie. The couple had 3 children and were divorced in 1976. Doyle went to work for Jack Buell Trucking. He met Edie Keogh when his mother played match maker setting them up while she was having lunch with Edie. The couple married on October 28, 1978 in Coeur d’ Alene, ID.
Doyle and Edie enjoyed their life together. He taught her how to bowl, fish, and play golf. He retired after working 20 years for Jack Buell Trucking. Doyle enjoyed working on his home and loved to build things. If you didn’t see him golfing on the golf course, you would see him out there constructing improvements to it. His greatest joy was meeting the guys for a round of golf and celebrating on the 19th hole with a cocktail.
He was a dedicated husband and father who loved his step-children like they were his own. He spent the last 2 years with the loving and caring staff at Valley Vista Care Center. His final gift to Edie was to have all of her 5 children home for Christmas, this Christmas will be the first time in 43 years. Thank you Doyle Henry.
Doyle is survived by his wife Edie at the family home, his sons Mike (Nikki) Gibson of Montesano, WA and Larry (Kari) Gibson of St. Maries, ID; step sons Duncan (Teri) Keogh of Deer Park, WA, John Keogh of Liberty Lake, WA, and Mark (Merilee) Keogh of St. Maries, ID; step-daughters Pat (John) Washburn of Beaverton, OR and Kelly (Peter) Welz of Marysville, WA; brothers JC (Mildred) Gibson of Abilene, TX and Buddy Gibson (Margaret Neill) of Portland, OR; 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
