Obituary of Kaleb Riley Brown
Kaleb Riley Brown 17, resident of St. Maries Idaho passed away at his family home January 5, 2017. He was born January 19, 1999 at SJRMC in Lewiston, ID to Jessica Grace Maland and Phillip Edward Brown. Before settling in St. Maries Kaleb attended elementary school at Coeur‘d Alene, Kootenai, Cataldo, Juliaetta, & last, but not least St. Maries. As an elementary student Kaleb made friends wherever he went. We moved around until Kaleb requested we stay in St. Maries. Teachers and students alike loved him. Kaleb attended Heyburn Elementary 4th grade, went on to SMMS, then SMHS where he was set to graduate with the Class Of 2017.
He went on the DC trip in 7th grade and in 2012 he was given the opportunity to go to Camp Blue Haven in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Northern New Mexico where he was baptized on his own accord. He had previously been baptized as a child. Kaleb was raised Christian Non-Denominational first attending the family church Full Gospel Lighthouse in Joel, ID where his Uncle Dallas Groseclose officiated, later became active in RLM, then St. Maries Nazarene Church Youth Group as a young teen.
Kaleb loved sports from an early age. He took up Track his 8th grade year at SMMS. His first Meet Kaleb competed and he took first place in long jump with an outstanding 18 ft. jump as well taking first in the 100M dash. This was the first, but not the last time he made the Gazette Record’s Athlete Of The Week.
To my surprise he befriended Mr. K before all was said and done and was given the opportunity to take advanced classes in the computer room.
In High School Kaleb was very athletic and talented. He played football all 4 years, wrestled (8,9,11), tried his hand at baseball (needless to say many of us objected, but went with it regardless), He went to State his freshman year in Track as well as his Junior year. His good friends Patrick, Jacob, and Stephen ran a 4x1 at State placing second earning them a medal with high recognition. He competed in long jump (9,11), pole vault (9), relay (11) 100M (9,11) 200M (11) Triple Jump (9). This year St. Maries Lumberjacks attended State where they not only took home the State Title they ended the year undefeated bringing home yet another medal. Kaleb was an outstanding football player. He proved size doesn’t matter as he could take out any kid on the opposing team. He ran like he had the wings of an angel.
Outside of school Kaleb enjoyed hunting, fishing where he took 1st place in the Elk River Ice Fishing Tournament for biggest fish, horn hunting, hanging with friends and family, snow boarding, wake boarding, singing, dancing, cooking, volunteer work including cooking at the Senior Center in Middle School, camping, poetry, reading, playing video games, working, learning new things and he was always up for a challenge. He participated in fundraisers of all types from raising money for Harrison Elementary to upgrade their playground equipment to whatever else he could do to lend a helping hand. Since taking Hunter’s Safety with his mom he has brought home several Elk and Deer. This year finally bringing home the big Buck he dreamed of. Kaleb was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Kaleb is survived by his mother Jessica Maland and Don Suchoski of St. Maries, ID; His father Phillip Brown and Angie Leras of Juliaetta, ID; Sisters Ashley Kaitlin Brown and Bailey Brown of Juliaetta, ID; Nieces Nevaeh Pizano and Sarai Ahumada; Maternal Grandparents Steven Johns of Ocala, FL and Mark Maland Sr. of Renton, WA; Uncle Mike Maland of St. Maries, ID; Uncles Mark Maland Jr. of Juliaetta, ID and Zachary Maland of Renton, WA; His Aunt Kassay Maland and two cousins Gracie and Hannah Maland of Juliaetta, ID; and Paternal Grandparents Christine and Donnie Brown of Juliaetta, ID. Other relatives include Chris Timken of St. Maries, ID, Jason Timken and daughter Kamdyn Timken of St. Maries, ID, and Peggy Timken of Medimont, ID. To Kaleb his friends were also considered family and too numerous to list. He is preceded in death by his grandmother Arta Grosecolse, great-grandmother Grace Groseclose, great-grandfather John Maland, and cousin Walker Isaac Maland.
A graveside service will be Friday January 20, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm at the St. Maries Church of the Nazarene Gymnasium with a community potluck following.
