Obituary of Joseph Richard Tweedy

Joseph Richard Tweedy (84) longtime resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at Valley Vista Care Center on January 12, 2017. He was born to Eugene and Bertha Tweedy on October 8, 1932 in Kooskia, ID. Joe attended Kooskia High School and graduated with the class of 1952. He enlisted into the United States Army where he was stationed in Panama. After serving 4 years in the Army, he met Mona Skeels in Addy, WA and they married on November 12, 1954 in Coeur d’ Alene, ID. The family lived in Colville, WA where Joe was a logger and mechanic. In 1964 the family moved to Dayton, WA where he went to work as a mechanic at Pool Motors. Cy Chase offered Joe a job in 1968 as a mechanic for Chase Chevrolet, so the family relocated to St. Maries, ID. They later opened Tweedy’s Chevron “Torchies”. He later went to work for the St. Maries school district as a mechanic and bus driver working his way up to Supervisor. He retired in 1999. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, his children, and grandchildren. He was a people person and enjoyed following all of his children and grandchildren in their sports. Joe is survived by his children Mike (Kathy) Tweedy of St. Maries, ID, Doug (Karen) Tweedy of St. Maries, ID, Pat (Gayla) Tweedy of Genesee, ID, Bob (Michelle) Tweedy of Spokane, WA, and Joanna (Larry) Dahlkey of St. Maries, ID. Also surviving are his sisters Mary Lee Lorenzen of Clarkston, WA and Irma Jean Abell of Lewiston, ID, 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Mona Tweedy, brother John Tweedy, and sisters Oma Abell and Helen Smith. A funeral service is planned for Tuesday January 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries, ID. A gathering of family and friends to share a meal will follow at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge.
