Obituary
Obituary of Madeline Garnet Whitaker
She left a lasting legacy of family...
Madeline Garnet Magers was born at home in her family's cabin in Sander's Idaho January, 5th 1940 to Homer and Hannah Magers. She grew up around Sanders and Emida, and went to school in Tensed and Plummer.
She Married the Love of her life and Soul-Mate, N. Nolan Whitaker, on June 1st 1957. They lived in Lewiston for a while, before buying property in St. Maries. They raised five children together, and held countless others under their loving wings. They were a pillar of guidance and support for many. They were very active in the LDS church. She was a custodian, and worked in the church music programs, Relief Society, and children's programs.
Madeline "Maddie" Whitaker, worked diligently to be a model homemaker. She was famous among the family for her homemade breads and cookies. She often did not need a recipe book, she knew her recipes by heart. She loved to sing, and play the organ and piano, which she often performed either at church or at home with her family. She enjoyed reading her scriptures, and loved western novels and stories of the pioneers. She also enjoyed bird watching, gardening, cooking, and the simple country lifestyle.
Her husband Nolan died October 3, 1999. Madeline would not date, and never re-married. She loved him so much, she could not marry another man.
In the years that followed, she had spent much of her time enjoying her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She encouraged arts and crafts, and shared with them her love of music, art, cooking, and stories. A person would not dare scold a child or animal in her presence, lest ye be reprimanded yourself.
Madeline was the matriarch, and rock of the family. She would do anything for them. It didn't matter if it meant money, rides, losing sleep, or making hard choices and sacrifices. She was a mother who, many leaned on for council and support. She was "blessed" with many health problems, but always stayed busy regardless of how she felt. She was a self-motivator. She was proudly independent and a strong willed woman. She was also very forgiving and taught her loved ones grace through her example.
Madeline is preceded in death by: her husband Nolan Whitaker, her daughter Bona Whitaker, son Terry Whitaker, her brother Roger Magers, and her parents Homer and Hannah.
She is survived by: her daughters April Whitaker and Angela Fowler, her son John Whitaker; her Sister Gloria, and brother Rick; and her grandsons Jimmy, Fred, and Luke, and granddaughters Joanna and Mandy. She also leaves behind 9 great-grandchildren, and countless extended family.
Madeline was reunited with her husband on January 18th, 2017. She passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, at her home at Mission Pointe on Round Lake. She was 77. Funeral services will be held at the St. Maries LDS ward on Monday January 30th, at 1:00pm. All of those touched by the life of Madeline Garnet Whitaker are welcome to attend.
