Obituary of Steven H. Mauro

Steven H. Mauro (64) lifetime resident of St. Maries, ID passed away on January 31, 2017. He was born on June 2, 1952 to George and Mabel Mauro in St. Maries, ID. Steve grew up in St. Maries and worked on the family’s dairy farm. He graduated from St. Maries High School with the class of 1972. Following high school he continued to work on the farm. Steve ended up taking care of his parents at the family’s homestead and eventually took over the farm. Steve was a great man with a heart of gold. He liked to garden and always shared his produce with neighbors and friends. Socializing was something he looked forward to every day and you would often see him hanging with the crowd at Steve Bailey’s shop. He enjoyed the relationships he had with all of his neighbors, they were like family. Steve enjoyed fishing, hunting, huckleberry picking, riding his 4 wheeler, and playing cards with friends which he was really great at rummy! He harvested his moose in 2004. During fishing season you could find Steve out on Benewah Lake and he loved it. Steve was very active with his church and enjoyed the fellowship there. He enjoyed children specifically watching his nieces and nephews participate in sporting events. He also enjoyed being the taxi for his niece Melody’s children who he chauffeured to all of their activities. It is a good thing Steve loved animals, because he had 30 + cats at one time that he adopted because his home “the old farm” and the surrounding area were used as a drop off site for them. If you knew Steve you know he loved a good bargain and he was very good at it. Steve will be missed by his family, his neighbors, and his friends. Steve is survived by his sister Mary Turner of St. Maries, his great niece who he helped raised Melody Shaw of Post Falls, ID, his brother in-law Dennis Donnenwirth of Cataldo, ID, his sister in-law Ness Mauro of St. Maries, ID, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donley Mauro, sister Margie Donnenwirth, and niece Lorri Lamb. A memorial service will be Saturday February 11, 2017 11:00 am at the Elks Lodge in St. Maries, ID. A gathering of family and friends to share a meal will follow.
