Obituary of Gary Douglas Barichello
Gary D. Barichello (72) resident of the Benewah Valley, died Feb. 26, 2017 at his home near St. Maries. He was born Feb. 29, 1944 to Raymond and Marjorie (Harris) Barichello at Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Gary lived in Canada until he was five years old. He moved to McMinnville, OR with his family in 1949. He graduated from Dayton High School in Dayton, OR with the Class of 1962. When he was 18, Gary received his U.S. citizenship. He attended Oregon Tech. at Klamath Falls, OR. He learned the diesel mechanic trade. He went to work for Kenworth Truck Co. In 1970 he attended Clackamus Community College where he obtained an Associates Degree in Drafting. Gary then went to work for Michener and Associates placing irrigation circles in various areas throughout the United States. Gary married Janice Wilkinson on July 31, 1977 in the Benewah Valley near St. Maries, ID. They made their home in Kennewick, WA where Gary worked as a Quality Control Inspector for Hanford. In 1981, he moved to San Louis Obispo, CA. to work at a nuclear plant. He worked at various nuclear plants throughout the United States. Later, Gary also worked as an electrical inspector on the Alaska Pipeline and a gas line inspector for Uribe, Inc. Gary’s last job was working for the Umatilla Army Depot at a plant designed to destroy old bombs that contained toxic warfare components. Gary retired in 2010 due to illness.
Gary enjoyed horseback riding in his early years. He also was an accomplished ballroom dancer. He enjoyed being a mechanic and working on automobiles. Gary loved gardening and landscaping. He loved watching NASCAR racing and other sporting events, especially college and professional football. His wife said “He was the most kind and honest man I have ever met”.
Gary is survived by his wife Janice at the family home in the Benewah Valley. Daughter Mary Ann Funderburk of St. Maries, his son Gregory Barichello of San Antonio, TX and son and daughter-in-law Darren and Sheila Barichello of Richland, WA. Also surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Michael Barichello-Harper of Kennewick, WA, his brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Patty Barichello of Phoenix, AZ, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 uncles, 2 aunts various cousins and nieces and nephews.
A potluck Celebration of his life will be held at the Benewah Community Center at a date and time to be announced later.
