Obituary of Rosa Melissa Scheffelmaier
Rosa Melissa Scheffelmaier (94) longtime resident of Lane, ID died Feb. 25, 2017 in St. Maries, ID. She was born November 12, 1922 in Steamboat Springs, CO to Edward and Linda (Reynolds) Warren.
Rosa moved to Idaho (Silver Valley) when she was 4 years old. She attended schools in the Silver Valley. Rosa married Ben Scheffelmaier on June 15, 1947 in Superior, MT. They made their home in the Silver Valley except for a brief stay in Leed’s S.D. where her husband worked in the mines. They moved to Wardner, ID in 1949 where Rosa was a homemaker and raised her family. In May of 1953 she moved to Lane, ID and continued to raise her children as well as raising 49 different foster children over the years. From 1963 to 1965 Rosa worked as a cook at Kootenai High School. Rosa and her husband lived in Nampa, ID from 1983 to 1984 and managed the Nampa Boys Home. She and her husband spent their winters in Salome, AZ and summers in Lane, ID. Her husband died in 1995.
Rosa enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and growing plants. She was a longtime 4-H leader and was known for her extraordinary baking skills.
Rosa is survived by her children Helen Sargent of Spokane Valley, WA, Ben (Melissa) Scheffelmaier of Avery, ID and Fred Scheffelmaier of Cataldo, ID. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by children Richard and Paul Scheffelmaier, Linda Kjolseth and Carolyn Eaton.
A celebration of her life will be held this summer at a date and time to be announced.
