Obituary of Betty Jean Christensen-Hoover
Betty Jean Christensen (54) resident of St. Maries, ID passed away on June 8, 2017 at her home. She was born to Earl and Laura Mellen in Wallace, ID on May 4, 1963. Betty was raised in Pinehurst and graduated from Kellogg High School with the class of 1981. Following high school, she attended Millie’s Beauty School in Kellogg, ID. In 1985 she moved to Fairbanks, AK where she met Dennis Christensen. The couple married on July 18, 1992 and had 2 children, Douglas and Heidi. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Betty held various jobs over the years such as waitress, bus driver, substitute teacher, and a gas station manager. She moved to St. Maries, ID in 2008 to be closer to her family. Her family was her world and she enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed attending her children’s activities, loving on her grandchildren, camping, decorating for the holidays, gardening, and loved flowers.
She is survived by her children Doug Christensen and Heidi (Karl) Scott of St. Maries, ID; brothers Jim Mellen of Kingston, ID, Tim (Debra) Mellen of Coeur d’ Alene, ID, Don Mellen of Kingston, ID; sister Pat Mellen of Coeur d’ Alene, ID; and one grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother J.R. Wallace.
Interment will be held privately. A potluck to celebrate her life will be at the City Park in Kellogg, ID on Saturday June 17, 2017 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
