Obituary of Raymond J. Wright

Raymond J. Wright Sr. MMCM USN, Ret. (81) resident of St. Maries, ID died October 25, 2012 at his home following a 6 month battle with cancer. He was born December 1, 1930 to Chester and Stella Wright at Pennsylvania Park , PA. He grew up there and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947. He served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He married Hilda J. Garnett June 16, 1956 at Vancouver, B.C., Canada. His military career took him to many duty stations in the South Pacific and Japan. He retired in 1968 at a Master Chief Steam Propulsionman. Following his retirement, he moved to San Lorenzo, CA and in 1969, he went to work for Kaiser Aluminum Co. and moved his family to Pleasanton, CA. He worked as Plant Manager and Engineer involved in HVAC, and Electrical-plumbing (boiler operation). He retired in 1987 and moved to property they had previously purchased up Cherry Creek, near St. Maries. They moved to their home on East Meadowhurst Dr. in 1992. In his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling through out Europe and Asia as well as the United States. Ray enjoyed home improvements. He loved to work in his yard and garden. He took pride in how his landscape looked at his house. Ray was a Member of the Alameda California Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite Bodies. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife Hilda at the family home. He is also survived by son Jon Wright and husband Jeffery of San Leandro, CA. as well as son Raymond and wife Carol Wright Jr. of Newman Lake, WA. Also surviving are his daughter Judith McDaniel of Spokane Valley, WA. Brothers Clifford Wright of Virginia and Marvin Wright and sister Edith White both of Pennsylvania and sister Joyce Spencer of Virginia. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Chester. Funeral Services will be Thursday November 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. At Hodge Funeral Home, St. Maries with Pastor Parker McNeill officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with Military rites conducted by the St. Maries American Legion. A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the St. Maries Senior Meal Site on 7th and Jefferson.
