Joyce Bissell

Obituary of Joyce Lee Bissell

Joyce Lee Bissell (80) resident of the Harrison, ID area, died from cancer on March 2, 2018 at Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’ Alene, ID.

Daughter of parents Russell Allie Williams born in Genesee, ID and Hazel Reese Williams of Hay Creek, OR, Joyce was born in Hollywood, CA, the fifth child of 5 children.  She was a child movie actress in 2 movies.  She later modeled for Bell Telephone and Mark Twains’ Jumping Frog Jubilee in Calavaras County, CA.

She met her husband Angelo while riding her horse in 1953 at Mountain Ranch, CA (The Mother Lode area).  They were married for 61 years.  She followed her husband’s 20 year military career throughout much of the US and Japan, working Civil Service, mostly as a Base Commander’s secretary, or Chief of Maintenance Secretary.

In 1974, Joyce and Angelo retired to property they had purchased earlier in 1960 near Harrison, ID.

Joyce loved sewing, gardening, raising melons, tomatoes, tree fruits of all kinds, but especially Carpathian walnuts.  Horses were her love, having 13 at one time; she could ride 29 miles and think nothing of it.  She packed with horses in nearly every wilderness in the West/Mid-West, often for 15 days at a time.  She loved the back-country.

Joyce is survived by her husband Angelo at their home, her daughter Angie Lee Bissell Morrow, grand-daughter ShayLee Bissell Morrow, and son in-law William Morrow Jr. all from Harrison, ID area.  Also surviving is her sister June Kenny of California.

At Joyce’s request there will be no services, but she suggested donations be sent to Hope’s Haven, 53 Robinson Lane, St. Maries, ID  83861 for the animals she loved.
