Obituary of James D. Cormana

James D. Cormana (85) longtime St. Maries resident, died January 9, 2013 at St. Maries from a heart attack. He was born February 15, 1927 to Charles and Mildred (Garnette) Cormana at Harrington, WA. Jim grew up in Harrington , WA . He graduated from John Rogers High School in Spokane, WA with the Class of 1945. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S.Army and served in the Pacific Theater of War. He was discharged in 1946. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War in 1950 and was discharged in 1952.. Following his service to our country, Jim enrolled at Kinmann Business School . It was there that he met Edith Weiler and they were married on August 1, 1952 at Millwood, WA. He received his accounting education at Kinmann and went to work as an accountant for Inland Truck and Diesel. He later worked for Dishman Dodge in the same capacity. He moved to St. Maries in 1967 and went to work for the St. Maries Complex of Potlatch as a bookkeeper. He later changed occupations and became a mill wright.. He retired from the mill in 1989. Jim continued to work part time for the Benewah County Fairgrounds. He along with Dr. Dyce Thurston and other members of the St. Maries Kiwanis Club as well as other civic organizations were instrumental in putting together the Community Building near the football field in the City Park. The building was named after him for his long hours of volunteer work on the project. He was president of the Kiwanis Club at the time. He volunteered his time when ever he was needed. He and his family worked on striping the community tennis courts when tennis wasn't popular. He enjoyed golfing, wood working and home improvements. He built tables, chairs and cribs as well as the shelves in his home. Jim was a Elder in the Comm. Presbyterian Church, a member of St. Maries Masonic Lodge # 63 AF & AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies of Coeur d' Alene and Calam Shriners. He was also a member of the St. Maries Shrine Club Crutch Patrol. Jim also served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader, a Past President of the St. Maries Kiwanis Club and the Benewah Co. Sr. Citizens. Jim is survived by his wife Edie at the family home. His daughters and sons-in-law Teresa and David Crock of Kent, WA, Judy and Ron Smith of Springfield, OR and Linda and Tom Reynolds of Poulsbo, WA. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren 1 Great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Bill Cormana and his sister Shirley Timm. Services will be Tuesday Jan. 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Comm. Presbyterian Church with Pastor Nancy Goodwin officiating. Masonic rites will be by the officers of the St. Maries Masonic Lodge. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Church's Fellowship Hall.
