Obituary of Harold Lee Crawford

Harold Lee Crawford (76) of Calder, ID passed away suddenly in his sleep at his home on October 24, 2018.  He was born In Des Moines, IA on December 22, 1941 to Rudolph and Lyla (Yates) Crawford.  Hal grew up in Iowa and graduated from Sanborn High School with the class of 1960.


Following high school, Hal relocated to the Spokane area to attend Eastern Washington University where he obtained his BA in Industrial Arts.  After college, he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a stone mason.  In 1962 he married Julie Mathisen, and in 1966 they welcomed their son Ward.  The marriage ended in divorce in 1976.


Hal ran his own contracting business, Crawford Construction, for 32 years.  He was very successful and talented building 23 homes in Spokane and the surrounding areas, and working on countless more.  In 1976 he met his neighbor and the love of his life Marsha (Gau) Duncan.  The couple married; and Hal also welcomed Marsha’s daughter Lori into the family as one of his own.  Hal and Marsha enjoyed many activities together such as bowling and anything the outdoors could provide them.  In October of 2002 the family permanently moved to their beautiful riverfront property on the St. Joe River just East of Calder.  With Hal’s construction talent, he and Marsha expanded their vacation cabin into the dream retirement home.  Hal enjoyed his home up the St. Joe.  He also enjoyed the woods, the mountains, fishing, hunting, huckleberry picking, and helping his neighbors with repair and building projects.  He was also a lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and NRA.  He will be missed. 

Hal is survived by his wife Marsha at the family home; son and daughter in-law Ward and Beverly Crawford of Dalton Gardens, ID; son in-law Todd Lehman of 9 Mile Falls, WA; brother Robert Crawford; sisters Nancy (Larry) Geisinger, Karen (Doug) Handeland, and Kathy Ager.  Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, Lyla Crawford and Blake (Megan)    Lehman, 1 great-grandchild, Wyatt James Lehman, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his daughter Lori Lehman, his parents, and brothers Donald Crawford and Francis Crawford.

A memorial service will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Maries, ID on Saturday November 10, 2018 at 11:00 am.  A gathering of family and friends will follow at the church.  Memorial contributions can be made to Hope's Haven, 53 Robinson Ln, St Maries, ID 83861.
