Rosalie Chappell

Obituary of Rosalie Chappell

Rosalie Chappell (72), longtime resident of Fernwood, passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 4, 2019.  She was born to William and Ruth Neil on January 14, 1947, in Spokane, WA.  She spent her early childhood years in eastern Washington but while in high school, she and her mom moved to St. Maries, Idaho.

In St. Maries, she met the love of her life, Orval Chappell, and they married in 1965.  During their years together, they lived in various communities throughout North Idaho but settled in the St. Maries area in the mid-70’s.  Rosalie worked for the state of Idaho and various other health care agencies providing homemaker services and support for the elderly until her retirement in 2017.  In 2017, she moved to Avon, Indiana, with her daughter and family, where she resided until she passed.

Rosalie was most known for her genuine smile, warm hugs and sense of humor.  She enjoyed bird watching, making crafts and “playing in the dirt” (planting flowers and gardens).  Her deepest passion, however, was her love for her family and friends.  Her home and her heart were always open to share a cup of coffee, a conversation and a hug.

Rosalie is survived by her children William (Mariah) Chappell of Plummer, ID, Russell Chappell, of Coeur d’Alene, ID and Rosie (William) Grimsley of Avon, IN; 8 grandchildren – Vanessa, Dustin, Cindy, John, Faith, DJ, Lexi and Toree; and 5 great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orval Chappell; sister, Jean Hill, and brothers, Vernon Neil and James Neil.

An informal memorial will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church (32 Timberock Lane) in St. Maries, Idaho.  The family invites her friends to share in a celebration of life and light luncheon as Rosalie returns home.
