Feeling lonely in my late 30's, sitting in the Harrison Seniors bldg, someone said, "Talk to Clifford's Dad." So I approached John, this quiet, kindly looking gentleman, and after explaining how I had passed up two serious girlfriends, he quietly said, "I believe I can find someone for you." I was so amazed, how he had confidence in me when I had been gone for many years from Harrison and had put off marriage so late. I mentioned words to that affect and he paused, and quietly said, "You can give me your phone number or call me at home with it. I can find someone for you." Such kindness, but also honest, direct and meant. I was flattered to be believed in. I foolishly procrastinated, thinking it would mean moving back to snow country, and so passed the offer by. It is said that a person is ultimately remembered for how they make you feel. John so lifted my spirits that day, that I still can picture it, at age 66. I am sorry to hear of his passing.
