Obituary of Wesley C. Cox

Wesley C. Cox Sr. (87) former lifetime Plummer area resident, died March 22, 2013 at St. Maries, ID. He was born December 24, 1925 to Thomas and Tamzy (Jones) Cox at Twin Falls, ID. In 1936, Wes moved to the Minnaloosa Valley, near Plummer. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and received his basic training at Farragut Naval Base. He served in the South Pacific on the USS Washington BB56 as a Gunners-mate. During his time of service, he earned 8 battle stars. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Plummer where he farmed . He move to Ione, WA in 1948 to work in the Zinc Mines. He married Ruth Dennison June 21, 1950 at the home in Minnaloosa Valley. Wes worked in road construction in the State of Washington. He helped construct the runways at Fairchild AFB in Spokane in the early 1950's. He moved to Spokane Valley in 1956 where he continued to drive truck and work in construction. He returned to Plummer in 1985. He drove logging truck for Erling Place as well as doing other odd jobs. His wife died in 2009. Wes was an avid gun collector. He enjoyed reloading and visiting pawn shops. While his children were growing up, they remember him getting them up at Zero-dark thirty to go fishing in a very small boat on Saturday mornings. He also enjoyed hunting. Wes was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was also Past Master of Concordia Masonic Lodge in Millwood, WA and a member of the Plummer American Legion for over 60 years. Wes is survived by his son Wesley Cox Jr. and his daughter and son-in-law Christine and Don Janson all of Plummer, ID and brother Thomas Cox of Quincy, CA. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be Saturday April 6, 2012 at the Worley Comm. Church, 30203 1st. Worley, ID at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don Cambra officiating. Graveside services with Military Rites will be at 12:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Plummer, ID.
