Luana Lynch

Obituary of Luana Marie Lynch

Luana died November 15, 2020 and went to the arms of God to become another shining star in the heavens above. Luana Marie Lynch (Leithross) was born July 19, 1939 in Oswego, OR to Reginald and Jessolyn (Jackie) Leithross. She lived the first part of her childhood in Oregon on her grandparent’s farm, George and Martha Hockensmith. Her education in school only went through the 8th grade, all the rest of her knowledge and wisdom came from her experiences, being self-taught and reading. When she was living on the farm, she loved all the animals, and she helped to take care of them. These abilities and love for animals extended to all the ones she had throughout her lifetime. In her teens she moved to California where she met the love of her life “Lucky” Luther L. Lynch. They were married soon after on November 6, 1955. After a few years of marriage, on February 12, 1962 they had their 1st and only child Lisa l. Lynch. Although Luana was an only child, she had quite the extended family after her marriage to Lucky. He had 4 sisters, 2 half-sisters, and 1 half-brother plus 2 children David and Dennis from a previous marriage. She also had 1 half-brother from her dad’s previous marriage and 3 half-sisters from his later marriage. Luana enjoyed family holidays and get togethers with Lucky’s family and had built relationships with all of them. In 1983 Luana moved to St. Maries, ID with her husband and daughter to property on Alder Creek. It was purchased by her stepdad Bob Townsend and her mother Jackie. She became a permanent resident of St. Maries for the last 37 years. The people she met from the time she moved here proved over and over how helpful, kind, and caring they were, and it didn’t take much time before they became fast friends. Luana’s husband (Luther L. Lynch) Lucky passed away on February 27, 1985. She moved to St. Maries and rented a house living there until her recent passing. Luana worked several places in town mostly cooking at the Benewah Resort, Appletree, Gemstate, Golf Course “Knickers”, and Granny’s Pantry. Once again, she acquired several wonderful friends. She retired from working and had a wonderful landlord and all of her surrounding neighbors that checked on her, visited her, and loved her as she did them. Luana was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 with a tumor in her lung. She was appointed an exceptional doctor, Dr. Bartels and his staff who with treatments got her through with great results. On October 23, 2020 she had an aneurism rupture in her head, and with all the chaos going on in town due to a weather storm, the Dr’s, nurses, hospital staff, ambulance EMTS, trauma team, neighbors, friends, and family were all extending their help, thoughts, prayers, and kindness. Due to COVID there were no beds available in Coeur d’ Alene or Spokane, so she was sent to Lewiston at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Thankfully with a lot of help from her granddaughter Danielle and her friends Tanny, Debbie, her daughter Lisa, and many others they were able to bring her home to St. Maries on Hospice at Valley Vista where she passed away surrounded by her loved ones on November 15, 2020. Luana is survived by her daughter Lisa L. Lynch and companion Del Metzer, grandson Scotty Hankins (Corey), grandchildren Casey Sutterlin (Danielle) and Lance Sutterlin (Melissa), great-grandchildren Autumn Fern and Haiden, Kyndal Lockard, Damon, Kylee, Karlee Sutterlin, great-great grandchild Athena Rose, The Lynch family-Jody, Della, Darla, and their spouses with numerous nieces and nephews, The Metzer family-Del, Bob, Becky, and Tammy, The Barden family Danny, Debbie, Debbie, Jessie and families, The Gleason family Darlene, Earl, and family, The Calneks lifetime friends, The Powell family John, Sabrina and family, Tanny Sines, and all of the friends and neighbors too many to name that loved her and she loved. She is preceded in death by her husband Luther L. Lynch “Lucky”, Father Reginald Leithross, mother Jessolyn M. Townsend, father in-law Albert Lynch, mother in-law Ruby Bloyd, and stepsons Dennis Hankins and David Hankins. No services are planned at this time; however, a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. Memorials can be made to Hopes Haven, 53 Robinson Lane, St. Maries, ID 83861 or the St. Maries Public Library, 822 College Ave., St. Maries, ID 83861.
