Obituary of Buck E. Mourning
Robert E. "Buck" Mourning (71) lifetime resident of St. Maries, ID died following a massive heart attack on August 20, 2013 at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d' Alene, ID. Buck was born on August 28, 1941 to Wilbur and Charlotte (Sweeney) Mourning at St. Maries. He grew up in St. Maries and attended schools here. As a young man, he began his career in the logging industry working in all phases of timber harvesting. Buck was a sawyer, faller, jammer and cat operator and drove a log truck. Buck was married several times which produced his 6 daughters. He lived in the Troy and Libby Montana area for 15 years working in the logging industry. Buck returned to St. Maries in the early 1980's and went to work for Benewah County as a heavy equipment operator. He married Margaret Thaut on December 23, 1983 at Coeur d' Alene. They made their home in St. Maries where he continued to work for the county. He went to work for Jim Titus logging and later worked for Jerry Sexton building roads. He also worked for St. Maries Logging for 5 years before going to work for Sam Badgett in road construction. He retired in 2003. Buck was a member of the St. Maries Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed playing lead and rhythm guitar and electric pedal steel guitar. He also played the banjo. Buck was known for his musical skills throughout the Pacific Northwest as he played with many area bands for over 45 years and back up for several Nashville Country Performers. Buck's other interests include wood working, wood carvings and guitar construction. He also enjoyed going 4-wheeling. Buck is survived by his wife Margaret at the family home in St. Maries. His father Wilbur Mourning also of St. Maries. His daughters and sons-in-law Cori and John Wade of Chehalis, WA. Connie and Greg Stevens of Shepherd, MT., Bonnie and Dennis Thibault of Sandpoint, ID., Tammy and Rick Bragg of Troy, MT., Jackie and Nick Katz of Post Falls, ID and daughter Robin Debow of Winlock, WA. , Step daughter and husband Shari and John Porterfierld of Winnemucca, NV and step-son and wife Leonard and Tonia Thaut of St. Maries. His brothers and wives Chuck and Lynn Mourning and Bill and Lou Mourning all of St. Maries , ID , 25 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Mother Charlotte Mourning and an infant brother and grandson Christopher Debow. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 11:00 am at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge with Deacon Floyd Turner officiating.
