Obituary of Robert M. Taisey
Robert M. Taisey Sr. (85) resident of St. Maries, ID died January 5, 2012 at Hospice House in Coeur d' Alene, ID from heart failure. He was born May 24, 1926 to Paul and Irene (White) Taisey at Hauser Lake, ID. He grew up in St. Maries where he attended school . He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater of War. He was discharged in 1945 and moved to Spokane, WA. He met his future wife Joan there and they were married June 16, 1947 at Spokane. Bob worked for Bowman Lumber Co. in Spokane before being transferred to Lebanon, OR. In 1949 he went to work for Cascade Plywood Co. there. In 1960, he moved to Polson , MT to manage the U.S. Plywood Mill. While in Polson, he was instrumental in developing the baseball field there. Four years later, he took a position in Boise, ID to manage the Boise Cascade plant. Every new position was an advancement for his career in the forest products industry. In 1967 he moved to St. Maries to manage the St. Maries Complex of Potlatch Corp. During this time , he was active in community projects such as helping transform the sand greens at the golf course to grass and working on the field light placement at the football field in the park. He was also an avid coach, mentoring his children and others in little league and other sports. Bob transferred to Jaype Complex of Potlatch at Pierce, ID where he finished his career in the forest products industry and retired in 1984. He lived his summers in Orofino, ID and winters in Yuma, AZ. He and Joan were Forest Service Camp hosts in the St. Maries and Montana. His wife of 60 years died in 2005. He moved to St. Maries in May of 2011. Bob enjoyed Riding motorcycles and snowmobiles. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing golf. He is survived by his sons and daughter's-in-law Bob and Deborah Taisey of Nampa, ID and Rick and Melody Taisey of St. Maries. Brothers Lyle and Jack Taisey both of Albany, OR , Don Taisey of Phoenix, AZ and Paul Taisey of Seattle, WA. Sisters Billie Jean Spooner of St. Maries, ID, Donna M. Bergman of Post Falls, ID and Ina Swope of Spokane, WA. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Walter, Bud, Floyd and Mick Taisey and sisters Hazel Buttenhoff and Margaret Muggins. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery Columbarium with Pastor Dan Swan officiating. A gathering of Family and friends will follow at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge. The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Benewah Co. 702 College Ave., St. Maries, ID 83861 .
