Obituary of Doris O. Hagan

Doris O. Hagan was born October 2nd, 1922 to Oliver and Phoebe Vierkandt in Hope, North Dakota and passed away on October 15th in St. Maries, Idaho. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and friend to anyone who knew her. She lived a remarkably selfless life and left a special imprint on all of those whom she came in contact with. Doris was raised on the family farm and was the eldest sibling to her two sisters, Olive and Shirley. She attended and graduated from Hope High School in 1940. Following high school, she began what would be her lifelong devotion of caring for others as a nursing student at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, North Dakota. She completed her certification with the Class of 1944 and worked at Mercy Hospital as a registered nurse. Soon thereafter, she moved to Port Angeles, Washington and worked as a surgical nurse at Olympic Memorial Hospital. There, she met Gordon Hagan and the two were married April 26th, 1946. The couple moved to Moscow, Idaho where she worked as a registered nurse and supported her husband while he attended The University of Idaho and completed his Accounting Degree. The two started building a family and made the States of Washington and Alaska their home for short periods before settling down for good in St. Maries, Idaho. Doris was a stay at home mother, taking pride in raising her children and later a grandchild and worked part time for Potlatch Corporation before officially retiring. She was generous with love and her kindness was effortless. Those traits were on display as a member of St. Paul's Luthern Church and The Eagles. She enjoyed reading, gardering, attending her children's and grandchildren's activities and was an avid sports fan who would feverishly root for her beloved Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Vikings and Boston Celtics year round. She is survived by son Greg Hagan of St. Maries, Idaho, daughter Kristi Hagan of Athol, Idaho, son Ed Hagan of St. Maries, Idaho and grandson Jimmy McAndrew of Hayden Lake, Idaho whom she raised after her daughter's passing. Her other family include four grandchildren, a grandaughter-in-law and one great grand child. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Hagan, her daughter, Susie, her parents and both sisters. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. Maries with Deacon Floyd Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge.
