Obituary of Norman L. Burch

Norman L. Burch Sr. (72) Fernwood, Idaho resident, entered into rest November 5, 2013 at Hospice House of North Idaho in Coeur d' Alene, ID. He was born September 6, 1941 to Franklin and Odetta (Sayler) Burch at Orofino, ID. Norm grew up in Orofino and attended school at Dent, ID and Orofino. As a young man, Norm worked in the woods with his father. He married Karin Altmiller on Sept. 12, 1959 at Dent, ID. They made their home at Dent before returning to Orofino. Norm drove logging truck and worked as a Gypo logger involved in all aspects of timber harvesting. In the 1970's, he began working as a contractor for Bennett Lumber co. in Princeton, ID. Illness forced his retirement in 2003. Norm enjoyed racing snowmobiles at the Fossil Bowl when they lived at Clarkia. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling around looking at old logging equipment. Norm was passionate about telling logging stories. Norm was a member of both the St. Maries Church of the Nazarene and the Fernwood Community Church. Norm is survived by his wife Karin at the family home in Fernwood. His son and daughter-in-law Norman and Beverly Burch Jr., daughter and son-in-law Terri and Brent Hanson all of St. Maries, son Michael Burch of Emida and daughter and son-in-law Vicki and Jim Arrhenius of St. Maries. Norm is also survived by brother Franklin Burch Jr. of Orofino, ID and sisters Wilhamina Beck of Peck, ID, Frances Roy of Roseburg, OR, Verna Gibbons of Lewiston, ID and Kathryn Altmiller of Orofino, ID. Also surviving are grandchildren Amber, Cody and Trace Hanson, Travis and Trisha Burch and Dana Arrhenius and Stephanie Widmeyer. Great grandchildren Brady, Cooper, Lyam, Layton, Eli and Gunner. A celebration of Norms life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene 175 Grandview Dr. with Pastor's Brian Primer and Dan Swan officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the Church. The family would like to thank Hospice for their special care.
