Obituary of Philip J. Plank

Philip John Plank (66) resident and local businessman of St. Maries, ID died November 13, 2013 at Kootenai Health following an extended illness. He was born May 22, 1947 to Dick and Martha (Wrench) Plank at Los Angeles, CA. Phil grew up where ever his father's military career took the family. He graduated from York High School, Yorktown, VA with the class of 1966. Following graduation, Phil attended York Technical College for two years. In 1968, he started up his first radio station in Arcata, CA. Phil married Theresa Westfahl on Dec. 12, 1977 in La Plaz, Maryland. He sold his radio station and moved to Newport News, VA . He then made his home briefly in Punta Gordo, FL. In 1980 , He moved to Palm Springs, CA where he worked as a broadcast engineer for a local radio station. Phil later started his own distributorship delivering merchandise to local businesses. In 1997, Phil obtained the license for KSSB FM radio station in Calipatria, CA. He operated the business until 2005 when he sold it and moved to St. Maries, ID. When he arrived in St. Maries, Phil and his wife purchased KOFE AM radio. Phil was active in Republican politics. His favorite hobby was building several different types of broadcast equipment and Photography. Phil is best known for his keen sense of humor. Phil is survived by his wife Theresa at the family home. Son SSgt Dick A. Plank II of Ft. Polk, LA, daughters and sons-in-law Sara and Michael Lee of Durant, OK, Jennifer and Joey Mason of Piedmont, OK and Sandra and Timothy Parish of St. Maries, ID. Also surviving are his brother Robert Plank of Glide, OR and sister Nancy Minimum of Peach, GA and 8 grandchildren. At his request, no services will be held.
