I had known Wanda since 1978, my first job with the Forest Service at the Emerald Creek Garnet Area. She was a stalwart influence at Clarkia, mom and grandma to all her "kids". She took great pride in seeing that the office, cookhouse and bunkhouse were maintained and in tip top shape. I relied on her so many times to help coordinate the Garnet Area crews, their time sheets, juggling vehicles, and resolving personnel issues. She was always there for me as she was for so many others. She will be long remembered.

I haven't seen Wanda (aka Pixie's mom) in 30 years; however, I remember her vividly. Pixie and were friends in Jr. High and kept in touch during various stages of our lives. I was saddened to hear of her passing and pray that she is watching over all of us now along with Bill. I am praying for Pixie and all the family and sending much love to everyone.

Wanda is that person no one will ever forget. She touched alot of lives and she definitely knows the real Forest Service family way....the old way! Not only did she take the "fire" crews and those that lived in FS housing in Clarkia under her wing and mothered them all.....she took the pets under her wing. When Lonnie passed away, a black cat that Lonnie fed in the shop (& only liked Lonnie), Wanda caught the cat in a trap and brought him to work for me to take home and care for him. Groucho was the name her and Lonnnie chose him. She definitely had a "heart of gold"!! She will be missed.....and she did fight hard for keeping Clarkia. I am sure her heart was broken when the FS decided to sell Clarkia. Alot of good memories there for many!

I always felt like Wanda was keeping an eye on things and everything would be alright at Clarkia. I have fond memories of my times there and she was a special person that really cared about all of us. I learned a lot about the St. Joe and the FS family with her guidance..she will be missed by many.

I considered Wanda to be my Forest Service mother... my fondest memories of her standing in front of a BBQ and 11:00 at night, cooking dinner for her kids, because she knew that her kids where tired and hungry. Thank you Wanda for the care and compassion that you showed everyone around you, and I am very glad that you got to meet my wife. Godspeed and RIP

She will be greatly miss. I had many great memories of her while i worked in Clarkia. You could say she was the Ranger of Clarkia. Wanda made sure Adam did not walk out in front of the picture window of the gov. house in just a towel unless the curtains were closed. She wanted to make sure Adam did not scare someone walking by....lol. RIP

I can’t imagine Clarkia without Wanda. I have so many great memories of her whether
it was taking care of all of us, helping set up a practical joke, going
toe-to-toe with yet another new ranger, or the occasional boot to the bottom
you knew no matter what, she had your best interests at heart. Wanda was a godsend to all of her kids and I’m
both blessed and honored to be one of them.

Wanda was a Mother away from home. Fire bosses to time keepers would discover that you didn\'t mess with her \"boys\". She was always watching out and caring for us. God, I miss those days under her watch.

I was fortunate enough to have lived in Clarkia for about 5 years. In that time I got to know Wanda and she is someone I will never forget. Those of us who lived out there at that time lovingly called her Gramma Wanda. Wanda and Toni made sure the bunkhouses felt like home and the work center and all who lived there became a family. I already miss her.

When you work in the woods, there some people that you want to be there for you. You could be 60 and she would talk about taking care of her kids. She was one of them. She cared deeply about the work center. I miss her. Q

Wanda and I met 34 years ago on the telephone, I was dispatcher at Red Ives and she was working at Clarkia. The fire crew would call into her to get fire supplies ready. Wanda would call me to ask what the different pumps and hose nozzles and other stuff looked like so she could get it ready for her fire crew. Wanda and I had some good talks and she always thanked me for helping her out. Wanda had a special place in her heart for the fire crew she took care of and her Forest Service family. I miss her dearly.

Wanda touched so many lives and had so many kids at Clarkia. She watched over them and took care of them. She even took care of their pets. When John was on the hotshot crew and had his labrador, Meg, he never had to worry about leaving her behind because he knew Wanda would take care of her. She took care of the work center and made sure things ran smoothly for many years. She cared deeply about all the people who came through Clarkia and was so sad when the FS decided we could no longer keep Clarkia that it broke her heart. I'm happy she was outside with Pepper for her last minutes at Clarkia.
