Al was a friend of our family (Floyd & Judy O'Leary) and I remember Al from the time I was really young, coming and visiting us. Al was always a straight-up, no BS guy with a wicked sense of humor. He and my dad would tell stories and I just thought Al was the coolest guy. He would always have time to talk with us and in my "know it all" teenage years he'd see me coming and just say, "Hey, what's up today, Slick?". Al was a seize the moment kind of guy who was unique and was definitely one not to follow the pack-he blazed his own trail.
Our family will miss Al-his sense of humor and his friendship. My heart goes out to his family and hope that they are comforted in knowing that so many people will miss him and are sharing in their sorrow in his passing.

Al was a close friend of my dad, Floyd O'Leary, and used to come from time to time to stay with us for a visit. As a kid, I always looked forward to those times, because Al was so interesting to talk to, and talked to me like a real person, not a kid. He talked about traveling, like when he was in Hungary, and brought new foods, like when he made us real Mexican style tacos. It's been a few years since I've seen Al, but his loss will be felt by our family. My condolences to the Harwood family.

I was shocked to hear of Allens heart attack. Ive know Allen since 1965 when he and I were Cadets in the CHP Academy in Sacramento in CTC11 1965. he was in Company A and I was in Company B so we didnt hang out together. I had resigned from the CHP in 1972 and moved to Idaho and went to work for the Idaho State Police and lived in Plummer and St Maries. Imagine my surprise when I learned of a fellow CHP officer in St Maries, Little ole Town of 3000 at the time. My wife and I met Sharon at that time. I have since retired and moved to Cda and have not seen Allen in a couple of years. My condolences to Allens family. Marshall Thorp, CDA Idaho, former CHP Officer 4002 and Retired ISP Corporal 505
