Obituary of Allen G. Harwood

Allan Gilbert Harwood (71) St. Maries, ID resident, died July 1, 2011 at his home near St. Maries following a sudden heart attack. He was born May 30, 1940 to Alf and Marion (Tusten) Gerdlund at Garibaldi, Oregon. Early in his life, the family moved to Blue Lake in Humboldt County, California. He graduated from Arcata High School with the class of 1959. He then enlisted in the United States Airforce. After his honorable discharge, he went to work for the California Highway Patrol. He had earned a B.S. Degree from Cal State. He married Jeannie Barnes , his high school sweetheart in 1968 and they had two children, Loren and Natalie. They were later divorced in 1977. He married Sharon Fuller in 1984 while living in California. He retired as a Sgt. From the CHP in 1992 and moved to St. Maries, ID where Allan worked as a deputy for the Benewah Co. Sheriff's Dept. He and his wife were divorced shortly after moving to the area. Allen enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, reading and visiting with friends. He was a member of the St. Maries Masonic Lodge # 63 AF & AM. The Scottish Rite Bodies of Coeur d' Alene and Calam Shriners. He also belonged to the St. Maries Shrine Club and Crutch Patrol. He is survived by his son Loren Harwood of Coos Bay, OR and daughter Natalie Anderson of Arcata, CA. Also surviving are two grandchildren.
