Obituary of Florence Smok Farber

Florence Smok Farber (88) longtime and dearly loved resident of Harrison, ID , died April 8, 2016 at Village at Orchard Ridge Care Center in Coeur d’ Alene, ID. She was born January 4, 1928 to Peter and Caroline ( Baran) Smok at Chicago, IL. She grew up there and graduated from High School in 1948. Following her graduation from high school in Chicago, Florence studied to be a teacher at Northern Illinois Univ. at Dekalb, IL. She graduated from there with a B.A. degree in 1952. Florence taught school in Hawaii, Alaska, Colorado and Harrison, ID. Florence married Joe Farber on Oct. 2, 1955 in Coeur d’ Alene, ID and moved there that same year. Florence and Joe adopted a baby girl in 1959 and named her Maria. Her husband Joe died in 1983. Florence was very active in her community. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She was a former member of the Harrison Kitchen Band, the Harrison Sr. Citizens and a member of the Crane Museum Society. Florence was active in the Harrison Old Timers picnic planning and functions and active in the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) organization to help children. Florence is survived by her daughter Maria Farber of Lewiston, ID., Step-daughter Karen (Bill) Henwood of Charleston, SC. Sisters Pat Smok of Aurora, IL and Wanda Szak of Morganton, NC. Also surviving are her granddaughter Muriah Farber of Moscow and step-grandchildren Kari Shivvers of Charleston SC and Rolland Welsh of The Colony, Texas. She was preceded in death by brothers Chester and Peter Smok. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Harrison, ID. with Fr. Jerome Montez celebrant.
