Obituary of Kathleen Rose Hills

Kathleen Rose Hills (63) resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’ Alene, ID on May 28, 2016. She was born to William and Doris Higgins in Spokane, WA on December 29, 1952. Kathy was raised at her family home in Emida, ID attending school through the 8th grade in Emida, and her high school years at St. Maries High School. Following high school Kathy married her high school sweetheart Richard Hills on September 4, 1971 in St. Maries, ID. Richard’s work took the family to Potlatch, ID and they later relocated to Emida, ID. The couple started their family having 2 children Dwayne and Penny. While living in Emida, Richard and Kathy managed the Western Bar and Café. The family had 5 acres where Kathy loved to ride her horses, and in the winter she loved taking off from the house on her snowmobile. Kathy went to work part-time as a dispatcher for the Benewah County Sheriff’s Office. The family relocated to St. Maries, ID and Kathy continued to work part-time and raise the couple’s children. Around 1990 Kathy went to work full-time at the Benewah County Sheriff’s Office. She had many job duties over the many years she worked for Benewah County. Her titles included Dispatch/Jailor, Dispatch Supervisor, Civil Deputy, and Lieutenant. There were even a couple times that Kathy had to step in as Undersheriff. She retired in 2011 after serving 28 years for Benewah County. In her retirement, Kathy enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her family. Kathy was a busy lady who found herself wanting a little extra to do in her retirement; therefore she went to work for Bright A. Morn Cleaning Service cleaning the Stimson Mill in Plummer, ID, and she also volunteered at the Red Barn thrift store. Kathy was a one of a kind and will be missed very much. Kathy is survived by her husband Richard at the family home. She is also survived by her son and daughter in-law Dwayne and Amy Hills, and daughter and son in-law Penny and Clint Scott all of St. Maries, ID; her brothers and sisters in-law’s Bill and Diana Higgins of Grangeville, ID and Roy and Alyce Higgins of Emida, ID; grandchildren Zachary Hills, Jacob Hills, Matthew Hills, Leslie Scott, Chelsie Scott, and CJ Scott all of St. Maries, ID. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Robert Wayne Higgins and Donald Higgins. A Funeral Service will be Friday June 3, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Nazarene Church Gymnasium. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries, ID. A gathering of family and friends to share a meal will be at the Nazarene Church Gymnasium following interment.
