Obituary of Kelly Roy Mahoney
Kelly Roy Mahoney (60) resident of St. Maries, ID passed away in Post Falls, ID on June 19, 2017. He was born to Milton and Rose (Burnett) Mahoney in Colville, WA on February 1, 1957. The family moved to St. Maries, ID in 1966. Kelly was a great athlete in school and excelled at his favorite sport which was basketball. He graduated from St. Maries High School with the class of 1975.
Following high school, Kelly moved to Lewiston, ID and attended LCSC. He decided college wasn’t for him and moved to Boise, ID where he went to work at a fencing company. Kelly returned to St. Maries after being gone a few years and went to work for the Edwards Mill. He married Cindy Harvey, and the couple divorced after 10 years of marriage. In 1996 he had his son Tristen Mahoney with Bobbie Mende, and in 1997 he went to work for Potlatch Corporation. His son Tristen and he share a love of Classic Rock.
Kelly was a past member of the Eagles Lodge and was also a member of the St. Joe River Boat Club as he enjoyed boating. He loved sports and in his younger years he coached high school girls’ basketball and volleyball. He also coached his son Tristen in AAU basketball. Also in the past, Kelly played in the St. Maries Men’s Basketball League and Men’s Softball League. He was currently a member of the St. Maries Men’s Golf Assoc. and looked forward to Thursday night golf night. Kelly loved the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Mariners, and the Texas Longhorns. He loved watching college ball and would often drive down to Moscow, ID to watch the Idaho Vandals play. He still loved going to and supporting the St. Maries Lumberjacks.
Kelly is survived by his son Tristen Mahoney of Lewiston, ID; sisters Dot (Jim) Scott of St. Maries, ID and Jan (Rick) Voss of Harrison, ID; brother Les (Jane) Mahoney of Herman, MN; and dad Al Townsend of St. Maries, ID. He is preceded in death by his father Milton Mahoney, his mother Rose Townsend, and his sister Vivian Mahoney. A potluck celebration of life will be July 13, 2017 at 5:00 pm at Joe’s Bar in St. Maries, ID (formerly Resors).
