I just learned of Don's passing via a note in the University of Missouri alumni association magazine. He was "Mr. Ferrell" for me when I was a student reporter on The Columbia Missourian in 1972-1973, when he was a managing editor. I always was impressed with him as he challenged his students to dig for the news story, get it complete, and get it right. It was a privilege to have him as an instructor, and he made a lasting impact on my life in journalism. Sincere thoughts and blessings to his family.

Even though I had lost touch with Don over the year's I am very sorry to hear of his passing. I was part of the J-School student reporting team that Don supervisied at KOMU-TV in Columbia Mo.
Don had great influence on my development as a journalist as he did on so many. He taught us to be clear, accurate, and fair as professionals...because he was all three. I admired him as a professional and as a person, and I owe him a debt of gratitude for all he taught me, and showed me, through his professional example.
Condolence to all the family.
Don was a very good man.
