On Nov. 7 I was traveling from N.Idaho south and stopped to see Toby. I found that I was almost a month late.
At Russell Grade school, Toby was always the "imp" with a grin and a twinkle in his eye. There are several stories I'ld share with his children that exemplify this.
I had gone to BSU when Toby and Jackie moved to Boise with their young family. Toby worked very hard at a job that drove him nuts. He loved his family a lot. He wanted his kids to have a lot easier time growing up than he did.
He loved building...outdoors with a wide variety of people suited Toby MUCH better than programming computers.
It is my hope that his family is comforted by these notes from others who have attempted to honor his life, grin and twinkle in his eye!

Toby was a friend of My husband, then became A friend of mine. When my aunt moved to North Carolina she had to consolidate some of her prize possessions, one of them being her favorite table saw. Toby bought that saw and whenever I saw him he always told me the projects he was working on and how much he enjoyed having that saw! We had the pleasure of going on a river trip with Toby in 2010 down the main salmon and he was such a joy to have on the trip. A life saver on the river in more ways than one, because there is always that ''one'' that we want to end up overboard before the end ! Toby was a natural on the river you would have never guessed it was his 1st trip. His sense of humor, willingness to help and of course campfire conversation was a hoot ! He will be missed.
Condolences to his family, may his memory bring you comfort and peace.
We would love to know if there will be a ''celebration of life'' to share his story. Sail on my friend.

Toby was as good of man as ive ever met.He would help anyone anywhere anytime.Ive known Toby for 15 years or more back in the slurp and burp days.We spent hundreds of hours togeather drinking beer at the shop and laughing about everything under the sun.You didnt have to wonder what Toby was thinking it just came out of his mouth for better or worse.Im driving around his old brown subaru that we have all worked on through the years and in his honor i will drive that heep till it gives up.We all have our stories with Toby, some we wont talk about.Toby was most happy when he talked about his kids and he would smile the biggest smile i ever seen.I always sent Toby a text just to see if he would text back,he never did he would call and say you know i dont do that,i would just laugh and say just checking.Toby lives on in all of us and i am a better person for knowing him and will miss him more than he will know.Sail on my friend,i will see you in the afterlife.

I am so sorry for your loss, I didn't have the plaeasure of knowing Toby very well, but the little that I did know of him, he was very kind and generous. I had the misfortune of landing in the ditch one cold winter day on Thorn Creek near his home. Toby was kind enough to lend a hand and pull my vehicle from the ditch and send me on my way. His kindness will never be forgotten. Thanks again Toby R.I.P.

We will miss Toby"s humor, laugh, honesty, and willingness to tackle anything. I asked Toby to climb up on our very steep roof to replace some shingles because I didn't want Warren to be up there anymore, and Toby said, with that wink in his eye, "oh, it's ok if I fall off but you don't want him to fall off?!" Typical Toby, funny but some truth in it. Our lives have been richer for knowing him.

Toby put a metal roof on my house several years ago. It's 4 stories. A big job. My son helped him, but he did most it himself. I always admired his work and the work ethic he used in completing it. The world needs more Toby Barner's

Our sincerest condolence goes out to Toby's family. He was a fun loving man to be around. He would stop by our house every few months and visit for awhile, have some good laughs and some good times. His laugh and smile will always be remembered. We are saddened that we will no longer have any drop ins from Toby. I am sure he is sailing somewhere and enjoying his time. Rest in Peace Toby. We will miss you.

We are sorry and deeply saddened of Toby's death. Toby was an awesome, genuine man with a very unique perspective on life. We feel very fortunate to have had him in our home and around our table so often over the past several months as he worked on our home. A tough, hard working man who made everyone around him laugh and share his happiness, who also taught us something in every conversation, whether it be about life or carpentry he knew both very well. We are grateful to have had our 16 month old daughter become so attached to "uncle Toby". From her slobbery kisses each night to her learning very quickly that just a slight change in his voice meant buisness. Toby will always hold a special place in our hearts.

I'm deeply sorry for your loss. I hadn't had any contact with TOBY since High School. I remeber I had a 1956 Pontiac and he had a CB160 Honda motorcycle. He needed a car for the night and I thought I could use a M.C. He had that infectious smile and could be trusted so we traded for the evening. He was also a good athelete with a big heart. A fine man!

We are so sorry to hear of Toby's passing. Toby did a lot of work on our ranch for us. We always asked how Adrian and Allison were and he loved to talk about them.We considered him a great friend. We will think of him often as he was going to come and put snow guards on our roof that he did for us.When the snow falls on our porches we will know he is looking down on us and thinking about the job he couldn't finish. May he rest in peace.

I am so sorry for your loss. Toby has been a very close friend of mine for over 21 years. I am shocked of this news as I just spent some time with him. He will be missed. I am very thankful that I got to know Toby and I have many, many wonderful memories of the time I did get to spend with him. He was one of my very best friends. A unique individual for sure. I love Toby and will never forget some of the brutally honest things that he told me. He was a smart, witty, talented man. I sure wish we could get some friends together and celebrate his life and share memories. It would help give some of us some finality. If there is anything that I can do to help, please call me at 208-285-1395. Please know what a positive impact that he made on my life. I will always cherish the memories.

Toby had a profound impact upon my choice of a career in computers. It is safe to say I would never have gone in that direction without Toby's encouragement. As a result, great blessings have been mine, many more than can be counted. Toby's friendship is one of the greatest treasures of my life. I mourn with you at your loss, but celebrate the wonderful things Toby brought to this world.

I remember spending a lot of time with Toby in Jr High School in Moscow. He was quick with a smile and seemed to want to encourage and support everyone around him. I last saw Toby in Moscow about 18 years ago. He hadn't changed and the smile was still intact. Today's world desperately needs more like him. I can't imagine the loss his family must feel. Please accept my deepest condolences.
