Mr. Cummings was by far my favorite teacher! I had the hardest time in biology!! I always raised my hand to ask him questions he was right there to answer it!! I still could not understand!! Well maybe a little I got a c on my test instead of a F !! He was proud of me !! WITH a C !! Never judged me I couldn’t get a A or B he was proud of me !! Great teacher !!

My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Sam. I adored "Mr. Cummings", and have so many good memories of him. He was my bus driver all growing up and my teacher in high school. I sucked at science, but Mr. Cummings was a fabulous and patient man who took extra time to make sure I got a decent grade. He was a good & very kind man who will be missed!

It was Mr.Cumming's first year of teaching and our first year of Biology class. Mr. Cummings lectured to us as if we were college students. He was tough and expected us to rise to a level beyond our way of thinking. We were his first experiment in a high school setting. I believe we rose to the occasion. So long Mr.Cummings. You will not be forgotten. Your family can be proud of your accomplishments.I know I won't forget.

Sam was one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. I was in awe of his vast, ready knowledge and appreciate the many learning opportunities he provided his students. We got to dissect everything from starfish to turtles and I remember how cool it was growing bacteria on petri dishes. When I took freshmen biology in college, I had already learned most of it in Mr. Cummings’ class. Just last week, I was telling my own (math) students about all the cool stuff we did in Mr. Cummings’ class.

Mr. Cummings was a "tough but fair" teacher that led SMHS to be sort of a powerhouse in science in the region. Because of his passion for science and connection with the students we all achieved more. My project went to the International Science Fair in LA in 1978 due to the guidance of Mr Cummings. Miss you Sir and my condolences to the family.

Sam was my brother (in-law) for 55 years. I was only 11 when he joined our family. He was the big brother I had always wanted. He challenged me to be the best person I could be. He loved all his Zolber family. He treated my folks with love and support and was always there for them. This last year he helped take care of my 93 year old Dad. We don’t know how we are going to manage without him. We love you Sam.

My condolences to the family! Mr. Sams was one of my most influential teachers and is the primary reason I went to university myself and became a teacher. Over 25 years ago he encouraged me, challenged me and believed in me. I remember going to the National Science Fair and realizing that it was true, “If I worked hard and didn’t quit, I could do it.” I remember the day he looked me in the eye and told me I should go to college. I did and became the first in my family to do so. I still think of him often and challenge my own students to look again and think of all the possibilities. May God bless and comfort you all during this time.
