Obituary of Ryan Maier

Ryan Neal Maier (50) lifetime resident of St. Maries, ID passed away in Coeur d’ Alene, ID on April 3, 2018.  He was born to Elmer and Judy Maier on August 8, 1967 in St. Maries, ID.  Ryan grew up in St. Maries and graduated from St. Maries High School with the class of 1985.  During his time in school, he was an exceptional athlete who excelled at football and wrestling.  He had the opportunity to play on the All-Star team for football earning the MVP award.

At the end of his high school years and beginning of his adult years, Ryan worked for North-South Ski Bowl.  He was amazing on a snow board.  He completed a competition in Mt. Hood, OR and one in Canada.  He loved the sport and was featured on a snowboarding magazine cover.  He went to work for Pacific Crown in Plummer, ID for a couple years before going to work for North Idaho Crushing, where he was currently working at the time of his death.

On August 22, 1997 his son Tyson was born, and on August 13, 1994 his daughter Tiana was born.  That little girl had her dad wrapped right around her finger.  Ryan raised Tiana with the help of his parents.  They made memories with trips to the Oregon Coast every year.  Years later along came his two grandchildren.  They also wrapped him right around their fingers and he enjoyed spoiling them.  He would take his grandson Keagan to do “man stuff” at times playing with fire and letting Keagan run the fire torch.  His granddaughter Aubree would take him down as they loved wrestling around.  Ryan often passed through Fernwood commuting home from work, and he would stop at Tiana’s just to drop off treats to his grandchildren.  He loved spoiling them, sugaring them up, and leaving them with their mom afterwards.  13 years ago, Ryan met his very best friend.  It was the day he brought home his chocolate lab fur-child named Harley.

Ryan was a fabulous cook who loved hosting dinners and barbeques.  He enjoyed feeding his friends and family, and there was always plenty of food.  The apple did not fall far from the tree as Ryan was a handyman just like his father.  He helped several friends make home improvements and helped one of his friends build a home.  As his dad was, he was a very talented carpenter who also built many porches and shops over the years.  Ryan also enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, camping, 4 wheeling, and riding his Harley.  He was one of the nicest guys you would ever meet, and he will be missed so much by his family and friends.

Ryan is survived by his mother Judy Maier of St. Maries, ID; daughter Tiana (Jared) Gray of Fernwood, ID; son Tyson Zagelow of Corvallis, OR; sister Shawna (Collin) Barden of St. Maries, ID; 2 grandchildren; and 2 nephews.  He is preceded in death by his father Elmer Maier.

A memorial service will be Friday, April 13, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the St. Maries Nazarene Church.  A gathering of friends and family to share a meal will follow at the church.
