Hilda and I met over dinner, me a nervous fellow being introduced to the family. Walking arm and arm back to our cars, I was struck by how welcoming and kind she was.
I soon learned of Hilda’s other enduring qualities; Hilda loves friendship and making the time to enjoy it. Over a meal or a card game, Hilda would laugh and joke and enjoy good conversation. Hilda’s home was always open and you were always welcome, just be prepared to be bested at cards as I seldom win a hand.
I have enjoyed the company of Hilda and Ray for almost half my life and in ‘08 I was welcomed into their family as their son in law.
I charish the gifts of our time spent together, laughing and conversing and (me) loosing another hand.
Rest In Peace.

Hilda was a treasured friend to all who knew her !!! She and I were best of friends for sixty years. My earliest recollection is hearing her call out, to anyone within shouting distance, from the window of their second-floor apartment in the U.S. Navy housing project in Alameda, CA. "We're having coffee and cookies up here - come on over !!" It was an invitation to everyone to enjoy an evening of chit chat and munchies, and to exchange pleasantries. The memory of those gatherings were precious then, and are priceless now. To my beloved friend - May you rest in peace.....
