Hilda Wright

Obituary of Hilda Janet Wright

Hilda J. Wright (93) resident of St. Maries, ID died peacefully in her sleep at her Assisted Living residence in Liberty Lake, WA.  She was born December 27, 1924 to Thomas and Cynthia Garnett in Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada.  Upon finishing school, she enlisted and served in the Canadain Army in the communications division.  After her Army duties were complete, she headed west and took up residency in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.  She was soon working as a Switchboard Operator with a major hotel.  Upon venturing south to Seattle, she met Raymond J. Wright who was serving in the US Navy.  They were married in Vancouver, BC, Canada on June 16, 1956.

Raymond was soon reassigned to the San Francisco Bay area.  After living on and around the Alameda Naval Base, they soon bought their first home together in San Lorenzo, CA.  In what seemed like a couple of short years, the Navy had the family relocating once again; this time to Sasabo, Japan.  It was here that Hilda fell in love with the Orient.  Antiques, art work, furniture, and China were a fascination for Hilda and soon the family home glowed with her treasures.

After Ray’s three year stint in Japan was over, the family returned to San Lorenzo, CA only to find that the home that they had purchased was not too small for this growing family.  A new home was in order and the family soon moved to Pleasanton, CA.  Raymond was employed with Kaiser Aluminum until his retirement in 1987.  Being “empty nesters”, Ray and Hilda soon packed their bags and moved to their property on Cherry Creek near St. Maries, ID.  They moved to their home on E. Meadowhurst Dr in 1992.

With a garden bursting with fruits and vegetables, Hilda soon found herself busy with food preservation and canning.  When they weren’t working in the garden, they enjoyed traveling.  Upon the loss of Raymond, Hilda soon needed the comfort of assisted living and eventually found herself in the loving care of Guardian Angels in Liberty Lake, WA.

Hilda is survived by her son Jon Wright and husband Jeffrey of San Leandro, CA; daughter Judith Wright of Spokane Valley, WA, as well as son Raymond Jr. and wife Carol of Newman Lake, WA.  Hilda had 6 grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters – James Garnett of Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada, Iris Schwenneker of Burnaby, BC Canada, Cynthia Dunne of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and brothers Don and David, both of Canada.

Private services will be held at a later date.
